Sony Plans to Deliver a Whole New Experience to Gamers with PlayStation 6
This week has been especially challenging for Sony, as the company’s announcement to stop releasing games on discs is still one of the most discussed topics in the gaming community. Despite this, new details about Sony's next-generation console, PlayStation 6, continue to appear via various sources, and the latest one suggests that the company plans to offer a completely new gaming experience to players.
Specifically, some details have appeared from a meeting between Sony representatives and investors that took place last month. According to the document, the company aims to make PlayStation 6 not just an alternative option to PCs or other consoles, but something that truly sets it apart from other devices by offering a new vision for the gaming experience. You can check out the official statement from Sony representatives below:
“PlayStation has long been strongly associated with the idea of playing in the living room. However, in recent years, more users globally have been using personal monitors. In response, we are selling peripherals such as monitors and speakers to break away from the fixed perception that ‘PlayStation equals the living room’ and to broaden usage scenarios. For the next-generation platform, rather than simply serving as an alternative to PCs, we aim to deliver value that is unique to PlayStation. This includes not only technological advancements but also an expansion of usage styles, enabling a seamless experience that can be enjoyed naturally beyond the living room.”
Speaking about the delivery of a new gaming experience, besides PlayStation 6, Sony is rumored to be developing a new handheld console called Project Canis, which reportedly will be priced around $500–700. This device is expected to outperform the Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Ally X. As for the next-generation console itself, insider Millie A recently revealed that the launch of PlayStation 6 is planned for autumn 2027. While the official specifications of PS6 remain unknown, players should expect to get a 4K resolution with 120 FPS, along with full backward compatibility with the PS4 and PS5.
