Justin Truman Has Stepped Down as Bungie’s Head; Studio Lost About 400 Employees Due to Layoffs

After releasing the final update for Destiny 2, titled The Final Shape, Bungie experienced another round of layoffs, as expected. Hermen Hulst, the CEO of PlayStation Studios, addressed this in a separate statement, and new details have since emerged revealing exactly who and approximately how many people left the studio.

Perhaps the most significant event here is the departure of Bungie's head, Justin Truman, who took over from Pete Parsons last year. This was reported by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier on the social network Bluesky, although the company has yet to make an official statement. Meanwhile, Paul Tassi from Forbes notes that recent layoffs at Bungie affected around 400 employees, roughly half of the studio, as you can check out below:

There are over 400 people in Bungie’s current layoff call. This would in fact be around half the studio.

This is a rather unfortunate incident for the studio, and it will very likely impact its future. Bungie continues to support its new online shooter Marathon, which was released in early March this year. However, the game apparently isn’t achieving the desired results, as its player base isn't growing: according to the latest report from SteamDB, approximately ten times more people are currently playing Destiny 2 than Marathon.
