Capcom Might Release Onimusha: Way of the Sword Earlier Than Expected

September 2026 is set to be packed with major game releases, with one of the standout titles being Capcom's new title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Earlier this month, during the State of Play presentation, it was confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel will launch on September 25th—just one day after Remedy’s Control Resonant and Screen Burn's Silent Hill: Townfall hit the shelves.

However, it seems that Onimusha: Way of the Sword might be released earlier than we expected. According to Canadian retailer PNP Games, Capcom may push the game's release forward by two weeks, launching it on September 4th to avoid competing with the aforementioned Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall. That said, the studio has not yet confirmed any plans to move the release date up, so this should be taken as a rumor for now.

It's also worth noting that earlier this year, Capcom postponed the release of their new game Pragmata, ultimately launching it a week earlier than planned. Therefore, it's possible they might be considering a similar approach with Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Recently, the studio also revealed the PC version's system requirements along with the specifications for the consoles.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword follows the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi, who is fighting against demonic creatures from the beyond world. The gameplay of Onimusha: Way of the Sword still reminds of the older game series titles, as it includes a linear adventure with separate open areas, similar to another Capcom franchise - Resident Evil, as well as sword duels and a combat system focused on parries, counterattacks, and instant finishers. The developers also confirmed that the ability to absorb souls will return to the game, but there will also be new mechanics affecting the gameplay.
