Capcom Revealed System Requirements for PC version of Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Consoles Specification
Less than three months remain until the anticipated release of Capcom's next hit, Onimusha: Way of the Sword—a long-awaited sequel poised to be one of the standouts launches in September 2026, thanks in part to the spotlight GTA 6 has put on the gaming industry. To build excitement among fans, the studio has released detailed system requirements for the PC version, along with information on resolution and frame rates for console editions. They’ve also clarified whether it’s necessary to play the previous games in the franchise before diving into this one.
The official Capcom website's Onimusha section has released detailed information regarding resolution and frame rate performance on consoles —PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. This provides a clear idea of what to expect from the Performance Setting options (Quality or Performance), including the expected resolution and frame rate. You can find more detailed information below:

Regarding the connection to Onimusha: Way of the Sword and whether it's necessary to play the previous games in the franchise—Onimusha: Warlords and Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny—to better understand the new game's story, the producer Akihito Kadowaki confirmed that it's not required since this project is a completely new work. However, having experience with the earlier titles would be helpful for understanding the franchise’s lore. You can check out the highlights from his interview with GameSpot below:
“This is a completely different world from the previous games. The main reason we wanted to do that is we wanted not only the fans of the series, but also new players, to start at the same place with the story. Everyone can experience the same thing at the same time.”
Onimusha: Way of the Sword follows the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi, who is fighting against demonic creatures from the beyond world. The gameplay of Onimusha: Way of the Sword still reminds of the older game series titles, as it includes a linear adventure with separate open areas, similar to another Capcom franchise - Resident Evil, as well as sword duels and a combat system focused on parries, counterattacks, and instant finishers. The developers also confirmed that the ability to absorb souls will return to the game, but there will also be new mechanics affecting the gameplay.
