The Simpsons: Hit & Run Might Get a Remake Soon

In February of this year, the studio Radical Entertainment, well-known for developing the Prototype franchise as well as The Simpsons: Hit & Run, underwent a rebranding and is now called New Radical Games. This has given fans hope that the beloved Simpsons game might finally get the long-awaited remake—and it seems this is a very real possibility, not just a pipe dream.

Summing up the Xbox Games Showcase presentation held on June 7, Jordan Middler, editor-in-chief of Video Games Chronicle, hinted that following the announcement of the new Spyro installment, A Realm Beyond, Activision plans to revive even more licensed franchises—including one that fans have been eagerly anticipating. Everyone seems to agree that he was referring to The Simpsons: Hit & Run, and you can find Middler’s full quote below:

“I think Activision's next step, and they're doing this with one very significant one, is to try and bring back some more of that licensed stuff, like make new versions of those licensed games. The one that everyone is absolutely desperate for is happening”

During the same livestream, Jordan Middler also confirmed that Naughty Dog is working on a new installment of Uncharted, although it is still far from active development and release. Rumor has it that Shaun Escayg, who also directed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, is directing the new game.

Regarding a potential remake of The Simpsons: Hit & Run, the show's showrunner and writer, Matt Selman, has previously mentioned the possibility. However, neither Activision nor New Radical Games has commented on any work related to a new version of the game at this time.

The Simpsons: Hit & Run, released in 2003, is a one-of-a-kind game in the franchise. It features an open world reminiscent of GTA, multiple playable characters, and iconic locations from the animated series. The game offers a full story campaign, numerous Easter eggs, collectibles, and even includes multiplayer support with split-screen gameplay.
