Multiple Insiders Claims God of War Laufey Might Be Released In 2027

This week, a lot of attention was given to God of War Laufey - a new game in the franchise, which is a spin-off of the series, where Faye, not Kratos, is the protagonist. The game was officially confirmed during State of Play, where more than 20 minutes of gameplay were shown, and subsequently, some details of the upcoming adventure were revealed.

Santa Monica Studio has not yet announced the release date for God of War Laufey, but several authoritative insiders have hinted that we may only have to wait until next year. For example, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier wrote the following on Bluesky:

“FWIW I wouldn't read too much into God of War Laufey not getting a release date or window — in contrast to a lot of other big announcements, this one *isn't* years away”

One of the users who reacted to another post about the lack of news on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet also asked Schreier whether God of War Laufey will be released in 2028, to which the journalist replied, "Definitely not." Thus, he hints that the game will be released in 2027, and he is not the only insider in the gaming industry who believes so.

In several publications on X, the well-known leaker Alir confirmed that God of War Laufey will be released in the first half of 2027. This also aligns with information from NateTheHate, who three months ago reported that Faye will be the main character of God of War; the reveal is planned for this year, and the release is in the first half of 2027.

Nevertheless, Santa Monica Studio does not comment on leaks regarding the release date of God of War Laufey, and for now they should be regarded as rumors. Details of the game's plot are largely kept secret, but it is known that the events take place parallel to God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok, as confirmed by the studio head, Cory Barlog, and the setting is Everywhen—the transcendent afterlife realm of the gods. In addition, Barlog also stated that Kratos will definitely return as the main character in future franchise games.
