Sony to Screen 90-Minute State of Play in Movie Theaters On June 2
As you may know, this week Sony officially announced that the next State of Play event will take place on June 2. Along with this announcement, the first game was confirmed—Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games—and we'll be seeing new details about it during the show. Judging by the latest news, we're in for a truly major gaming event.
According to MisterPXL on X, Sony will host its upcoming State of Play event simultaneously in several major cities, including Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Raleigh, as part of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema network. An official announcement about State of Play has already appeared on the company’s website. It states that the presentation will last 90 minutes (by comparison, the February event lasted just one hour), and Sony has sent out invitations to the gaming press. It looks like we’re in for a truly massive gaming event. The official statement from Alamo Drafthouse Cinema you can check out below:
“Sony State of Play hits the big screen for a live theatrical fan event packed with major PlayStation® announcements and a fresh look at Marvel’s Wolverine, the action-packed new adventure from Insomniac Games, developed in collaboration with Marvel Games. Expect a room full of fellow fans reacting in real time as new reveals and trailers debut, plus a themed menu of claw-worthy bites and cocktails, as well as exclusive giveaways. Admission is free with a refundable food and non-alcoholic beverage voucher, redeemable at the event. Reserve your spot and start sharpening your Adamantium.”
When discussing the potential scale of the upcoming State of Play, E3 2018 immediately comes to mind. Specifically, Sony’s presentation was shown in movie theaters, not only in the U.S. but also in other countries across North and South America. That presentation became one of the best in E3 history, showcasing projects such as Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel's Spider-Man, and The Last of Us: Part II.
Rumor has it that on June 2, during State of Play, there will be an announcement for a new God of War game featuring Faye, as well as a reveal of Hogwarts Legacy 2. Furthermore, Sony recently registered a new trademark called Brake In, but this is most likely just a rebranding of the previously announced multiplayer shooter FairGame$ from Haven Studios, so there is a chance the game could be revealed there as well. But the most interesting thing is that GTA 6 could potentially appear at the State of Play event thanks to a special partnership between Sony and Take-Two.
