Nagoshi Studios Reportedly Closed Its Office as Gang of Dragons Is Rumored to Be Cancelled
Starting in March of this year, some disturbing news about Gang of Dragon—a new project from the creator of the Yakuza series, Toshihiro Nagoshi—appeared online. The game was announced very recently, at The Game Awards 2025 in December, but it seems that everything is leading to it being (or already having been) canceled.
After news appeared that NetEase, the parent company of Nagoshi Studios, would stop financing Gang of Dragon in May of this year, fans noticed that the developers had deleted their YouTube channel and everything related to their game, and soon the studio's website also became unavailable. But this is not the end yet.
As reported by Pirat_Nation, Nagoshi Studios might be shut down, as its office in Tokyo is marked on Google Maps as ‘Permanently closed,’ as you can check out below:
“Nagoshi Studios, the company founded by Yakuza series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, has permanently closed.
The studio’s Google business listing in Tokyo’s Ebisu district now displays a “Permanently closed” notice.
NetEase ended all funding after determining that the studio’s debut project, Gang of Dragon, would require an additional ¥7 billion (around $44 million) to complete. No new publisher or investor was secured.
The studio’s official website is now offline, its YouTube channel has been deleted along with all trailers and related content, and there has been no official statement from Nagoshi or the company.”
As noted by X social media user, at the moment there are no statements from NetEase or Nagoshi Studios about the closure of the studio and the cancellation of Gang of Dragon. There is still a slight chance that development could be transferred to another company, but for now this is more than anything just speculation.
Gang of Dragon is an AAA action-adventure set in Japan, primarily in the real-life Kabuchiko district, which is famous for its nightclubs and mafia showdowns. It follows a story about Shin Ji-seong (Ma Dong-seok), who finds himself caught up in a struggle between rival factions, yet at the same time forms deep personal bonds that radically change his outlook on life. So far, the game is confirmed to be released only on PC.
