Bungie Confirmed Their Plan to Support Marathon for Years
Since its release last month on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, Marathon has become a success for Bungie and Sony as well. Although it’s still miles away from being a record-breaking hit, the results are mostly decent, and the game has the potential to get even better.
Recently, Marathon’s creative director, Julia Nardin, spoke to GamesRadar+, where she revealed that Bungie is indeed planning to support the game over the next few years, and this strategy won’t be changed. You can check out the highlights from her interview below:
"We know where we want to take the story over the next few years, but I don't want to say it’s completely 'locked in' because it's important to us that our players be able to help shape it. For the studio, player input into the narrative is “part of the magic of playing a live service game.”
Nevertheless, despite support from the developers, the game has recently seen a decline in player interest. For example, Steam’s peak concurrent players recently hovered around 20,000 but have now dropped to 14,000 or lower. Given that the game recently received its first discount, this situation looks disheartening.
As we know, Sony is also planning some high stakes for its new extraction shooter, Fairgames, developed by Haven Studios, which recently received its first reviews from pre-alpha testers - and it doesn't sounds good for now. Given the current situation with Marathon, the company may have to reconsider its plans for releasing a new game and devote some more time to Bungie’s new title in order to attract players’ attention.
Marathon is now available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
