Fans Want to See Ubisoft Making a Star Wars Outlaws Sequel
Despite mainly mixed reviews, Star Wars Outlaws, released by Ubisoft in 2024, found its audience and was well-received by many fans of the Jedi and Sith franchise. Not only did the game offer a fresh take on the universe by featuring smuggler Kay Vess as the main character, but we also got what is perhaps the most expansive Star Wars game in terms of open world and range of activities.
And indeed, in addition to the enormous planets available for exploration and the reputation system with factions, the game also perfectly captures the spirit of the original Star Wars trilogy, showcasing picturesque locations and a sense of a “living galaxy.” Nevertheless, almost everyone notes that Star Wars Outlaws, like many of Ubisoft’s recent projects, lacks variety in its missions, an outstanding storyline, and content that prioritizes quality over quantity—and features particularly poorly executed stealth mechanics. Perhaps partly due to the many negative aspects, U bisoft has decided to abandon plans for a sequel to the game, as insider Tom Henderson recently reported.
Nevertheless, many fans would still like to see a sequel, and in a new Reddit post, user Spardath01 announced the launch of a petition directed at Ubisoft, urging the studio to resume work on a sequel. Of course, this is unlikely to influence their plans, but it shows that Star Wars Outlaws is still a game many fans are eager to see.
"Sign the Petition
So it’s official. The sequel to Star Wars Outlaws has been canceled before it even got off the ground.
The mods previously had the petition link pinned at the top of the subreddit, but it appears to have been removed. Consider this a reminder for anyone who missed it or meant to sign earlier.
Ubisoft leadership says the game underperformed because people were tired of Star Wars. Let’s be real. The launch was rough and that’s what hurt it. The patches helped, the DLC added value, and plenty of us stuck with it and actually enjoyed it. There is a community here that still believes in this game’s potential.
Now, with the influx of new players on Switch, we are seeing more posts about positive experiences and people saying they wish they had not listened to the naysayers early on. That momentum matters. With the petition about to hit its fourth milestone, this is the right time to keep pushing.
This petition is asking Ubisoft to reconsider. Not demanding anything unreasonable, just asking for a second look. Games like No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk 2077 had rocky starts. They turned things around by listening to their communities. Outlaws deserves that same chance.
If you want more from this universe, more stories, more gameplay, and more of what Outlaws got right, sign it and share it. Let them hear us.
By the way, next week—specifically on May 4, National Star Wars Day— we can still expect an announcement of a new game based on the franchise; it's about Star Wars Jedi 3, developed by Respawn Entertainment, which, according to rumors, is currently in active development and is set to be the franchise's most ambitious project yet.
In addition, we may learn more details about a number of other projects, such as Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic led by Cade Hudson, which was announced at last year's The Game Awards, the Knights of the Old Republic remake, or Star Wars Eclipse, an interactive movie from Detroit: Become Human developer Quantic Dream.
It was also recently announced that Star Wars Galactic Racer will be released on October 6 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
