Original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Brings Players Back Thanks to the Remake

Last week, Ubisoft revealed official details, including the gameplay and the new features of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced—the remake of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. The game instantly gained popularity not only among fans of the franchise but also among casual gamers, and many have high hopes for Ubisoft, believing that Black Flag Resynced will help the company regain its former glory.

The release date of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is set for July 9 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, with no delay expected. And while it didn’t happen yet, fans decided to pass the time while waiting for the game by revisiting the original 2013 title. According to SteamDB, the number of players on Steam increased significantly during the Black Flag Resynced stream.

The study shows that while there were around 1,000 players in the game in early April, the number of active users has surpassed 3,500 over the past week. Of course, this is by no means a huge number, but it’s nice to see that fans are still returning to games from 13 years ago. At the time of writing, there are 1,385 people playing simultaneously.

Ubisoft already confirmed that with the release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the studio won't be removing the original game from sale, so those who might prefer the original over the remake—or who want to play the multiplayer mode or DLCs that won't be included in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced —will be able to go back to it at any time.

Black Flag Resynced is not the only Assassin’s Creed remake Ubisoft is working on. It is reported that the remake of the original Assassin’s Creed game is in development, while the next mainline title, Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, is reportledly set to release in 2027.
