Ubisoft Is Looking to Release Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe in 2027
Despite the hype surrounding Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the remake of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, which was revealed by Ubisoft last week, the studio is also working on the next mainline title for the franchise—Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe. The game was initially announced in 2022 but still doesn’t have a release date.
Codename Hexe is also having some development issues, as some notable developers, related to the project, have stepped down recently. Specifically, Ubisoft veteran and game’s former creative director, Clint Hocking, level design director, Luc Couture, and quite recently—game's director Benoit Richer, who was appointed only this January.
However, the game might still be in good hands, as Clint Hocking was replaced by another Ubisoft specialist—Jean Guedson, who is also now the Head of Content of Assassin’s Creed brand. According to the latest information, it was his initiative to cut the magical elements from Codename Hexe, which can significantly influence the game and make it more grounded and focused on realism rather than dealing with mystical creatures.
Although Ubisoft hasn’t revealed the release date of Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe yet, according to the new report of Insider Gaming, the studio is looking to release the game next summer, with June 2027 being eyed. However, the source is adding that approximately 50 developers, who were working on the game, have been laid off and moved to Ubisoft’s Interproject team due to management changes at the franchise’s authority. In this case, the release date may also be delayed to the holiday season of 2027.
In the previous reports, we heard that Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe will not use RPG elements, with a focus on psychological horror, stealth, and atmosphere-driven gameplay. That information was revealed by one of the game’s testers. At some point, the game also featured Ezio Auditore as the protagonist’s mentor, which was revealed by Tom Henderson, but considering the magical elements seem to be cut, it’s not a guarantee that he will appear in the final version. From what we know, the game is set during the 16th-century Witch Hunts of Germany.
As for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the game is releasing on July 9 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, with a version for Nintendo Switch 2 rumored to be in development. Ubisoft is also reportedly developing the remake of 2007’s Assassin’s Creed original title.
