Karl Urban Wants to Play John Marston in Red Dead Redemption Movie Adaptation
You may know Karl Urban for his roles as Billy Butcher (The Boys), Eomer (The Lord of the Rings), and Dr. “Bones” McCoy (Star Trek), but next month the actor will portray the legendary Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat II. In the latest interview, the 53-year-old actor also admitted he would like to play in Red Dead Redemption film adaptation and play a fan-favorite character.
In the recent interview with Square Mile, by promoting the upcoming Mortal Kombat II, Urban was asked whether he would like to play in any other video game adaptation, and his answer was Red Dead Redemption. Moreover, he reveals that he would love to play John Marston, the protagonist of 2010’s Red Dead Redemption and one of the most important characters in Red Dead Redemption 2, as you can check out below:
“Red Dead Redemption is one of my favourites. Red Dead is a fantastic game. It’s interesting because I didn’t really have too much of an opportunity to get that heavily invested in the gaming culture.
Although I absolutely enjoy the opportunity to indulge in that kind of escapism, when gaming consoles came out in 1994, I was an unemployed actor living in Sydney. I couldn’t afford those consoles.
By the time I could, I was so busy working on various projects around the world that I was never able to get into it. From time to time, when I did get the rare opportunity, Red Dead was certainly one of the games that spoke to me.
I mean, come on, John Marston! I’d love to play that character.”
This is not the first time Hollywood actors have expressed the desire to star in Red Dead Redemption movie. Last year, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who is mostly known for his Negan role in The Walking Dead TV show, revealed he would love to play Arthur Morgan in game’s adaptation. Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Arthur Morgan and Karl Urban as John Marston sounds like a dream cast.
