Samson Is Not a GTA Competitor, According to Christofer Sundberg

Next week will see the long-awaited release of Samson—the debut project from Liquid Studios, the creators of Just Cause and Mad Max. Development is also being led by Just Cause game series creator Christofer Sundberg.

Some gamers have compared Samson to GTA franchise, specifically Grand Theft Auto IV, for its dark atmosphere, realistic car physics, intense gunfights, and plenty of hand-to-hand combat. Nevertheless, in the latest interview with PC Gamer, Sundberg reveals that Liquid Studios is not trying to make a GTA competitor with Samson. "I have a huge respect for Rockstar and what they've done to the industry. Because every time a GTA game releases, it's just Christmas for everyone. It's like when a new iPhone releases. It's something that so many want, that don't even play videogames. They buy it because, when it releases, it's the talk of the town.

There are times when you want to put GTA down and pick up something else. And so, I see Samson as being like back in the day when action movies were 90 minutes long, not over two hours. I keep on going back to watching Die Hard and Ronin and First Blood and Rambo. I think there's a space for us there, and that's where I want to end up.”

Samson is a 1990s-set action-crime game. You play for Samson McCray, who returns to the brutal city of Tyndalston to pay off a heavy debt and protect his sister, engaging in intense, close-quarters combat and car-based combat. So far, the game is releasing on PC only, but Christofer Sundberg confirmed Samson will definitely release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in the future.
