Behaviour Interactive Revealed Whether Studio Working on Dead by Daylight 2

Released almost a decade ago, Dead by Daylight has become one of the most successful multiplayer co-op horror games nowadays. Since then, Behaviour Interactive’s title has received plenty of crossovers with notable horror franchises like Scream, Halloween, and Stranger Things, but also with video games—The Witcher, Castlevania, Tomb Raider, etc.

Despite its relatively simple gameplay—where a few players face off against the killer, with the players trying to survive and the killer trying to kill everyone else—tens of thousands of players continue to play Dead by Daylight. And some gamers are wondering, with the massive success of the original title, will we ever see a sequel? Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like an opportunity for now. During the latest interview with IGN, Behaviour Interactive head of partnerships Mathieu Cote and the studio’s creative director Dave Richard revealed that they are not considering making Dead by Daylight 2. You can check out the highlights from their interview below:

“There's always a point where we say, okay, we could do a sequel now, and it would be far easier actually to do a sequel with a blind slate than try to fix these issues that we have, for example. But it never makes sense for the fans. Never ever. They've invested time and money on DBD. That's the game they want to play.

So, we can continue to put the effort so that they can have fun and still have value for the money. It's also very possible to take your game and bring it kicking and screaming into the next decade. And that's more what we want to do. We're not going to do a DBD 2, that's for sure. They're not going to have to buy a DBD 2 and restart from scratch. But we understand that the game is 10 years old, and that's a long time in video game years. And we want people that start today, tomorrow, next year, to feel like they're playing a game that is current. It's not a nostalgia token, it's a real game that you can play today and that makes sense.”

Despite Dead by Daylight not getting a sequel, as confirmed by Behaviour Interactive representatives, the game still periodically receives updates and crossovers with other franchises. We also know that Dead by Daylight will receive a movie adaptation by Blumhouse-Atomic Master, with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring, Insidious) and Alexandra Aja (Mirrors, Maniac) set to serve as screenwriters.

And in case you like Dead by Daylight, you need to watch a new gameplay of co-op multiplayer horror based on Halloween franchise, which has similar mechanics to the game.
