The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s New DLC Will Be Set Near Velen and Could Be Released This May

Although CD Projekt RED hasn’t revealed or even teased anything about the new expansion to 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, there are multiple reports and rumors that new DLC is in development by Fool’s Theory studio, the same developers of The Witcher remake. Nevertheless, the new report just added fuel to the fire in terms of where the new story could take place, and the release might be sooner than we expected.

There were previous rumors the new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt might take place in Zerrikania, an exotic eastern region that includes desert and even dragons. However, according to a Polish gaming insider, UV o grach, who previously was a Gry-Online journalist, the new Wild Hunt DLC will be set in the regions we saw in the original The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt video game—specifically, near Velen and closer to the Northern Kingdoms. He also revealed the expansion is expected to release this May, despite the announcement not having happened yet.

“The rumored third DLC for Witcher 3 is said to be set near Velen, rather than in Zerrikania.

According to Polish insider and former Gry Online journalist UV o grach, the DLC would take place within the Northern Kingdoms, with reports indicating it could launch as early as May.”

Velen has previously appeared in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt; it’s the game’s first massive location, a province at the north of Temeria that features multiple kinds of monsters, especially necrophages and upiors. As for the Northern Kingdoms, it is a continent featuring the states of Redania, Temeria, Aedirn, and Kaedwen, also known as the Four Kingdoms.

It will be interesting to see which location or locations will be in the rumored DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and who will be the main character—whether Geralt of Rivia or Ciri (or both). Recent reports also confirmed the expansion will set up the upcoming The Witcher 4, where Ciri will be a protagonist.
