The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt New DLC Setting Reportedly Revealed
It looks like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is really receiving new DLC this year, as recently Polish analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski confirmed he’s “100% confident CD Projekt RED will release new content for the game.” Moreover, according to a fresh report, we already know where this DLC will be set—and it could be quite exciting for the fans.
According to IGN Polska, new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been in development for years, and in the early stages of development, it took place in Zerrikania—a famous exotic eastern region in the lore of The Witcher franchise that is known for its desert and dragons. And the source is also suggesting it does have a logical connection to previous games and the upcoming The Witcher 4.
- In the Blood and Wine DLC, Geralt discovers the schematics for the School of the Manticore—and the school is located at Zerrikania;
- Based on The Witcher TTRPG materials, the School of the Manticore has experimented with woman mutations, and that could have led to Ciri completing its Trial of the Grasses;
- Letho of Gulet, who appeared in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has once said he is going to Zerrikania, and his words make his appearance in DLC more likely;
- Azar Javed is the villain of the very first The Witcher video game and the upcoming The Witcher remake—and he was born in Zerrikania; that could be the point to connect the new DLC, the upcoming remake, and the upcoming The Witcher 4;
IGN Polska also reveals Kovir and Poviss remain alternative options for the setting of new DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This land is known for its harsh, snowy climate, but, according to the source, it might have some problems for The Witcher 4; the game will be set in cold regions, and if new DLC is taking place in a common region, that could spoil the effect of the new setting in The Witcher 4. Moreover, the new add-on is expected to use REDengine, while the fourth installment will be built by Unreal Engine 5—that's why the Zerrikania setting does make more sense.
