Fortnite Announces Changes to V-Bucks Pricing and Battle Pass Rewards

Epic Games has revealed upcoming changes to Fortnite’s in-game currency system, including adjustments to V-Bucks packs and Battle Pass rewards. The announcement has sparked concern among many players, as the update will affect how much currency users receive and how many V-Bucks they can earn through the game’s seasonal content.

Although Fortnite remains a free-to-play title without pay-to-win mechanics, V-Bucks play a central role in the game’s ecosystem. Players use the currency to purchase cosmetic items, skins, and various passes that unlock exclusive challenges and rewards.

A History of Changes to V-Bucks

Over the years, Epic Games has made several adjustments to Fortnite’s currency system. V-Bucks pricing has been modified multiple times across different regions, often in response to economic changes.

In 2023, another controversial change occurred when Save the World Founders lost access to Daily Login Rewards, a system that allowed players to occasionally earn free V-Bucks simply by logging in. Epic attempted to soften the backlash by introducing additional Daily Quest rewards, and the Battle Pass price was also increased by 50 V-Bucks around the same time.

V-Bucks Packs Will Contain Fewer V-Bucks

The upcoming update will introduce a major shift. Instead of raising the price of V-Bucks packs, Epic Games will reduce the number of V-Bucks included in each pack while keeping the price the same.

These changes will take effect on March 19, 2026, alongside the launch of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2.

Updated V-Bucks Pack Values

Before March 19
After March 19

1,000 V-Bucks
800 V-Bucks

The Exact Amount purchase option, which previously allowed players to buy small quantities of V-Bucks at roughly $0.50 for 50 V-Bucks, will also change. After the update, the same amount will cost $0.99, effectively doubling the price.

Battle Pass Rewards Are Also Changing

The Battle Pass price will drop from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks, which may initially appear cheaper. However, the overall value remains the same because the basic V-Bucks pack will now contain fewer coins.

More importantly, the total V-Bucks that players can earn from the Battle Pass will be reduced. Previously, players could earn up to 1,500 V-Bucks, allowing them to make a profit while completing the pass. After the update, the Battle Pass will only reward 800 V-Bucks, meaning players will simply recover the amount they spent.

This marks the first time players will no longer earn extra V-Bucks from completing the Battle Pass.

Other Passes and Fortnite Crew Changes

Several other passes will also see pricing adjustments:

  • OG Pass: reduced from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks
  • Music Pass and LEGO Pass: reduced from 1,400 to 1,200 V-Bucks

Subscribers to Fortnite Crew will also be affected. The monthly membership previously granted 1,000 V-Bucks, but this will now be reduced to 800 V-Bucks per month.

Player Reactions

The changes have generated mixed reactions within the Fortnite community. While Epic Games lowered the price of certain passes, many players argue that the overall value of V-Bucks is decreasing, since packs now include fewer coins and Battle Pass rewards have been reduced.

The Exact Amount purchase option has also drawn criticism. Introduced in September 2025, the feature allowed players to buy precise amounts of currency for specific items without purchasing larger packs. With the price nearly doubling, some players feel the option may no longer be as useful as it once was.
