South Park X Fortnite Event Brings Quints Mode And Free Born In Chaos Pass
The South Park x Fortnite crossover is now official, with Epic Games releasing a full trailer that confirms a five-player battle royale playlist, new items, and a free mini pass. Epic published the full trailer after clips of the crossover spread online in low quality. That early version showed most of the gameplay beats, but the official cut runs about two and a half minutes longer and adds several animated scenes produced in South Park’s familiar style.
I watched the trailer shortly after it went live, following footage that had already circulated earlier in the day after being leaked in December. The official release fills in missing context and confirms how the collaboration will play inside Fortnite when it launches on January 9.
The short opens with Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny playing Fortnite together while Butters sits alone in the lobby. The group refuses to squad up with him due to his poor performance.
“Actually, you just suck at Fortnite,” Cartman says. “It’s not even lowkey.”
The scene moves quickly from a joke about skill gaps to the event’s central mechanic. Butters, wearing his Professor Chaos outfit, uses the Stick of Truth to transform the South Park school bus into a Fortnite Battle Bus. The moment bridges the animated short and the in-game content, placing all five characters into the same squad and setting up the debut of Quints.
Quints is a limited-time five-player playlist that will be available until February 5. Epic confirmed the mode in the trailer description and later detailed it further in Epic's blog post tied to the event. Fortnite squads have historically capped at four players, and Quints marks the first official increase beyond that limit. No additional rules or balance changes were outlined beyond the expanded team size.
Each of the core South Park characters appears with mech-style outfits designed to fit Fortnite’s proportions. These skins are not included in the event pass and will instead be sold through the in-game Shop. The crossover’s mini pass, titled Born in Chaos, breaks from previous Fortnite events by being fully free. Players can unlock its contents by completing South Park-themed quests without spending V-Bucks.
According to Epic’s announcement, the Born in Chaos Pass includes 13 items. Rewards shown include the Backpack of CRED back bling, the Terrance and Phillip pickaxe, and a Cheesy Poofs-themed emote. Completing all quests grants the Imaginationland Airship glider. The pass is accessible through a dedicated tab and runs for the full duration of the event.

Gameplay additions extend beyond cosmetics. New loot items inspired by the show include the Stick of Truth, which allows players to control the Storm, Cheesy Poofs that can heal allies or damage enemies, and Kenny’s Respawn Token, which automatically reboots players after elimination. A new point of interest, Cartmanland, arrives on the map’s Golden Coast and serves as the event’s main themed location.
Epic first outlined the scope of the event when it was announced on their X on January 6, confirming the January 9 start date and the inclusion of Quints, new loot, and the free pass. The crossover runs through February 5 and arrives as part of Chapter 7 content updates.
South Park x Fortnite continues Epic’s pattern of leaning into animated franchises with strong visual identities. While some details, such as how Towelie functions as a Sidekick, remain unrevealed, the trailer makes clear that the focus is on squad size experimentation and broad accessibility rather than paid progression.
