Rayman 2 launched in 1999 on the N64 alongside versions for PC, PlayStation, and Dreamcast. It followed the 1995 sidescroller and marked the series’ shift into 3D. The game introduced a broader world structure, new movement options, and a stronger focus on environmental puzzles, setting the tone for later entries.

Tonic Trouble, also released in 1999, was conceptualised by the creator of Rayman, Michel Ancel. Players control Ed, a purple alien sent to stop Grögh after a mishap that triggers a chain of toxic events on Earth. The game leans on slapstick design and varied terrain, and includes temporary transformations such as Super Ed, activated when the character eats popcorn.

Nintendo’s update continues a steady expansion of the N64 library. Forsaken 64 arrived on the Mature app in September, adding a shooter with a distinct visual style and open-zone structure. In October, Nintendo added Mario & Wario to the service outside Japan through Switch 2’s mouse support, marking the first global access to the SNES title.

Rayman 2 and Tonic Trouble represent a return to recognisable franchises and offer a snapshot of Ubisoft’s approach to 3D design during the era. Their addition gives subscribers two contrasting interpretations of platforming from the same studio and year, each shaped by different production aims and character concepts.

Read also, an activist group is calling for a boycott of the Nintendo Switch 2. Gaming Consumer Rights alleges that Nintendo’s marketing inflates perceived scarcity, pushes higher pricing, and repackages older titles at a premium. The group argues that these tactics pressure buyers into early purchases under conditions it claims are engineered rather than market-driven.
