Xbox Begins Rolling Out a Proper Mobile Store in Its App

Microsoft is quietly rolling out a long-requested upgrade: a fully functional Store inside the Xbox mobile app. For the first time, the app now looks and feels like a true marketplace, letting users browse games, view details, and build wishlists directly from their phones.

Previously, the mobile store offered limited value. Yes, you could buy and remotely install games, but the experience never felt like a genuine shopping interface. With this update, that changes—and usability takes a noticeable step forward.

Rolling Out Region by Region

Early users have spotted a new Store icon in the bottom navigation bar, with the search tool shifted to the top of the screen. However, the feature is not yet available to everyone. Many users, including those posting early impressions, still see the older layout without the Store tab.

The rollout appears tied to app version 2512.1.2, while most people remain on version 2511.1.3, which still shows as the latest available update. This strongly suggests Microsoft is launching the redesign gradually on a regional basis rather than pushing it globally all at once.

Part of Xbox’s Larger Mobile Strategy

The update aligns with Microsoft’s broader ambition to expand the Xbox ecosystem beyond traditional consoles. Over the last two years, the company has been preparing the groundwork for a dedicated Xbox mobile gaming store. It was originally expected to debut in July 2024, but Microsoft delayed the release to conduct additional market research.

For now, Android users have the best chance of seeing the new Store in their app already. iOS users may need to wait a little longer. Still, the direction is clear: Xbox is finally bringing a true mobile Store experience to its app—and it looks like a promising step forward.
