Rockstar Games Could Bring a Medieval Fantasy Game to Life After GTA 6
Rockstar Games, the studio behind the world-famous Grand Theft Auto series, might be preparing to step into uncharted territory — the medieval fantasy genre. The possibility came to light after Dan Houser, Rockstar’s co-founder, hinted at it during a recent conversation with podcaster Lex Fridman.
During the interview, Houser reflected on several cancelled and unfinished projects, revealing that Rockstar had once toyed with the concept of a game set in a mythical world filled with knights, castles, and magic.
A Forgotten Idea That Might Resurface
Houser explained that the medieval project never moved beyond the brainstorming phase. It didn’t reach scriptwriting or full production, largely because the development of Grand Theft Auto VI demanded the studio’s total focus and resources.
However, with GTA 6 expected to launch on May 26, 2026, Rockstar could soon have room to explore new creative directions. Houser suggested that once the studio wraps up its work on the next GTA, there’s a real chance the long-shelved medieval fantasy concept could be revived and turned into a full-fledged game.
If that happens, Rockstar might deliver something entirely different — a rich, story-driven fantasy adventure with the same cinematic depth and world-building that made GTA and Red Dead Redemption legendary.
