The new roadmap confirms that two major DLCs are currently in development. The first, Temple of Stone, is scheduled for release before the end of fall, while a second expansion introducing a new sector is planned for next summer. The roadmap also lists a wide range of free updates, including farming features, a brewing system, NPC AI improvements, and new player tools such as exercise equipment that converts physical effort into usable in-game energy.

Deep Field Games also plans to introduce expanded difficulty settings and additional items to support survival mechanics. Other updates will include the addition of boats for travel, crafting expansions, and general quality-of-life improvements. These updates aim to deepen the cooperative survival experience that has drawn comparisons to Valve’s Half-Life for both its tone and structure.

One of the most talked-about details from the announcement involves two planned crossovers, one of which developers teased as being “sure to sink its hook in you.” While the studio did not confirm any partners, the accompanying blog post hinted that licensing discussions may still be ongoing. The Q&A video reinforced that these collaborations are intended to align with the game’s tone and humor rather than act as pure promotional content.

“Look, we’re going a lot of places … and we’re really excited to bring you that future. We’re also terrified of our obligations to the community, so be nice, we love you.” — Zag, Developer at Deep Field Games

The developers’ comments reflect the studio’s cautious optimism following Abiotic Factor’s successful 1.0 release earlier this year. Since its debut, the game has received “Overwhelmingly Positive” feedback on Steam, praised for its mix of cooperative exploration, survival systems, and environmental storytelling.

The roadmap’s presentation follows several months of consistent post-launch support, with community-driven updates improving crafting balance, multiplayer stability, and environmental interactivity. The new content signals the studio’s intent to maintain long-term engagement through both paid expansions and ongoing free updates.

Abiotic Factor first drew attention for its tongue-in-cheek approach to the classic lab-disaster setting. Despite its humor and references to 1990s PC shooters, reviewers have highlighted its atmospheric world-building and immersive cooperative systems. PC Gamer’s review awarded it a score of 92, calling it “an unforgettable interdimensional odyssey with you and your closest friends.”

The review emphasized that Abiotic Factor succeeds in blending its absurd science fiction premise with genuine moments of tension and camaraderie. “There is an unbelievable amount of stuff to do, and there’s really no rush,” the piece noted, recommending players take their time exploring and experimenting with the game’s many systems.

The new DLC roadmap builds on that sense of progression. Temple of Stone is expected to expand the lore behind the in-game organization GATE, while the unnamed summer expansion will introduce new storylines and sectors. Deep Field Games stated that these updates will continue its approach of balancing narrative depth with experimental gameplay features.

The announcement marks another major step for the studio, which has steadily grown Abiotic Factor from an indie early-access project into one of 2025’s standout cooperative survival titles. The roadmap and Q&A confirm that the developers plan to keep expanding both the scope and accessibility of the game, offering players new ways to experience its unusual blend of science fiction, humor, and survival.
