Background

Black Myth: Wukong first launched on PC and PlayStation 5 in August 2024, quickly becoming a global hit with 20 million sales in its first month. The long-awaited Xbox release followed a year later, on August 20, 2025.

While anticipation was high, the Xbox version arrived with problems, particularly tied to visual fidelity on Series X and various quest-breaking bugs. Game Science has now responded with a new patch designed to improve performance and polish the experience.

🛠️ Key Fixes in Update 1.0.20.21518 (Xbox)

  • Visuals: Fixed the blurry graphics issue caused by global illumination ghosting in both Balance and Quality modes.
  • Quests: Resolved bugs that made certain side quests unprogressable after abnormal dialogue exits.
  • Boss Fights: Fixed an issue where bosses in Mount Huaguo would sink when the player moved away.
  • Stability: Addressed multiple crashes and error triggers under specific conditions.
  • UI/Settings: Improved responsiveness when navigating the Text Language dropdown menu with a controller.

📌 Notably, the patch notes only reference the Xbox Series X, with no mention of Series S adjustments.

🔮 Looking Ahead

At Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, Game Science surprised fans by revealing its next major project — Black Myth: Zhong Kui. While details remain scarce, the reveal trailer highlighted even more stunning visuals and teased a new protagonist.

Meanwhile, CEO Feng Ji has hinted that Sun Wukong’s story isn’t over yet, suggesting the studio may return to the hero in future content — whether through an expansion or another standalone entry.

✅ With this update, Xbox players should notice smoother gameplay and sharper visuals, bringing the experience closer to the game’s acclaimed PC and PS5 versions.
