inZOI Players Say the Simulation Just Isn’t Deep Enough

Since its early access release in March, InZOI has made a lot of noise as a new competitor in the life sim space. It even beat The Sims 4’s Steam numbers on launch day, peaking at over 87,000 concurrent players. But the hype didn’t last long. Within a month, Krafton’s player base dropped sharply, losing more than 90% of its peak users.

That decline wasn’t too surprising—early access games often see a big drop once the launch buzz fades. But Krafton decided to dig deeper and find out why players were leaving, what they liked, and what they wanted to see improved. The team ran a fan survey and recently shared the results through YouTuber Fantayzia, who was invited to a livestream and given permission to post the findings. Also, modding support was added in the last update, which could help the community grow and fill in some of the missing content on its own. Is it enough to bring a solid community?

The most important takeaway: players want more simulation. In fact, 42% of survey respondents picked “lack of simulation content” as the thing they dislike most about the game. That means people feel like the daily life, emotional systems, and interactions between characters don’t go far enough to make the world feel alive.

In second place, with 11% of the vote, players flagged the “unnatural relationships, interactions, and emotions” between Zois. These complaints seem closely connected to the first one. When the social parts of a life sim don’t feel convincing, it weakens the whole experience. Coming in third, with 9%, were issues related to game optimization and performance.

On the positive side, people are loving how their Zois look. The most-liked feature, by a wide margin, is the detailed character customization. It got 43% of the vote. The realistic graphics and art style also earned praise, taking second place with 22%.

But even in this area, players want more. In a separate vote about future content, fans said they want more clothing options first, followed by more hairstyles. Other things they asked for include more job types, deeper job systems, better tutorials, and more flexible relationship choices.

These answers show that people enjoy the basics of how InZOI looks and feels. The tools for shaping a character are already strong, but they want that same level of depth in the rest of the game. They want their characters to actually live complex lives, not just look cool while standing around.

The survey also revealed something bigger than just bug fixes or feature lists. A lot of players mentioned that InZOI sparked a feeling of competition in the genre. Since its reveal, fans have hoped it could push The Sims 4 to evolve or inspire new features. That competitive spirit was listed as the third most-liked thing about the game, suggesting people want more than one serious option in the life sim space.

Krafton hasn’t made any big promises yet about what updates will come next, but this data is likely to shape their roadmap. The company has already announced changes to its upcoming content schedule and hinted at more transparency going forward.

It’s also important to mention that despite the early hype, this was a crushed release. Player retention fell hard after launch, and the studio now has to rebuild that momentum with better systems, clearer goals, and regular updates.

For now, the message is clear. The customization is working. The vibe is strong. But if Krafton wants InZOI to be more than a short-term buzz game, it needs to focus on simulation depth, relationship logic, and long-term play systems. Otherwise, even a great-looking life sim can end up feeling shallow after a few hours.
