Red Bull to Host Tetris World Championship at the Dubai Frame—With Thousands of Drones

The global gaming industry has soared to such heights that esports events now rival traditional sports in scale and spectacle. Stadiums packed with fans watching digital competitions have become the norm. But Red Bull is about to take things to a whole new level—with a Tetris World Championship held at one of the most iconic landmarks in the world: the Dubai Frame.

What sets this tournament apart isn’t just the game—it’s the way it will be played. Red Bull plans to deploy thousands of drones to bring the classic puzzle game to life in the skies. These drones will act as massive pixels, mimicking live gameplay and representing the moves of finalists in real-time. Participation in the championship is completely free, though there are a few conditions. All players must be at least 18 years old, and eligibility may vary depending on legal restrictions in their country of residence.

The qualifiers kicked off earlier this month and will run through October 31. After that, regional finals will determine who advances to the ultimate showdown. The grand finale will take place December 11–13 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
