Tencent Eyes Nexon Acquisition to Expand Global Gaming Reach

Tencent, the Chinese tech giant, is reportedly considering a major move to bolster its gaming empire by acquiring South Korean developer and publisher Nexon, according to Bloomberg.

With an estimated market value of $15 billion, Nexon’s ownership is currently shared among the heirs of its late founder, Kim Jung-ju. The company is known for its strong lineup of games and publishing partnerships across various markets.

This isn't Tencent’s first attempt—back in 2019, it sought to take over Nexon, but talks at the time did not lead to a deal. While discussions have resumed, the outcome remains uncertain.

Nexon boasts a rich catalog of successful titles, including The First Descendant, Dave the Diver, and The First Berserker: Khazan. It also acts as the publisher for games like EA Sports FC Mobile, The Finals, and the highly anticipated ARC: Raiders.

If the acquisition goes through, it would significantly enhance Tencent’s presence in both Asian and global gaming markets, adding Nexon’s top-tier projects to a portfolio that already includes Riot Games, and investments in Epic Games, Ubisoft, and FromSoftware.
