The cooperation between Ubisoft and Tencent already has several years of history. The Chinese holding previously acquired 49.9% of the shares of Guillemot Brothers Limited — a company controlled by the Guillemot family, the founders of Ubisoft. The deal, worth more than $350 million, also granted Tencent a 5% voting stake in Ubisoft. Thanks to this investment, Tencent gained the status of the largest shareholder of the well-known developer with a potential stake of up to 17%. The new collaboration only strengthens the strategic partnership between the two giants.

According to official information, Vantage Studios will work on developing the Rainbow Six, Assassin’s Creed, and Far Cry franchises, which are among the company’s largest game series. The teams that will join the new structure are already based in Ubisoft’s studios in Montreal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia.

Tencent invested approximately $1.25 billion in the creation of Vantage Studios, receiving about 25% in this project, while the rest will belong to Ubisoft. Rumors about a possible full acquisition of Ubisoft by the Chinese company appeared as early as the beginning of 2025, but it later became known that it was only about the creation of a joint subsidiary studio. The official confirmation of the project was announced in March 2025, although at that time it still had no name.

The main tasks of Vantage Studios include improving the quality of story-driven games, expanding the multiplayer experience through regular content, and integrating new social features. Ubisoft emphasizes that developers within the joint venture will receive a high level of freedom, which will allow them to implement original ideas and more effectively take community feedback into account.
