Fortnite to Introduce New "Shove" Mechanic in Upcoming UEFN Update

Epic Games has quietly updated the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) roadmap with a surprising addition — a brand-new “Shove” mechanic. This feature is set to arrive in Fortnite Creative during Q2 2025, and while it's currently limited to custom content, it may eventually find its way into the main Battle Royale mode.

A Continued Evolution of Movement in Fortnite

Movement in Fortnite has undergone major improvements over the years, and many players consider it one of the game’s most important quality-of-life advancements. From the introduction of sprint and stamina, to the addition of vaulting and hurdling, Epic Games has steadily worked to keep the gameplay feeling fresh and fluid — especially for Zero Build players who rely on mobility instead of construction.

These changes haven’t just improved navigation; they’ve also given players more tactical flexibility in fast-paced encounters.

What Is the Shove Mechanic?

The new Shove feature is described as a lightweight offensive ability:

“A new weapon/ability that enables Players to shove other Players away from them with a light force.”

While it may sound simple, the implications are significant. Much like the existing Slide Kick, which allows players to deal damage by sliding into enemies, Shove could open up new combat opportunities. Players might use it to push opponents into hazards, off cliffs, or even into environmental traps to cause fall damage.

Creative-Only for Now — But With Competitive Potential

At launch, the Shove mechanic will be exclusive to Fortnite Creative, meaning map creators can begin building custom experiences around it. However, whether it eventually gets added to Battle Royale remains to be seen.

If it does, it could have serious impact on the competitive scene. Imagine build battles on high platforms, where a well-timed shove could send an opponent tumbling to their doom. It would introduce a new layer of threat during close-quarters engagements — alongside the already-dangerous Slide Kick.
