Square Enix Breaks Silence on Kingdom Hearts IV With New Screenshots

After two years of radio silence, Square Enix has finally given Kingdom Hearts fans a reason to get excited again. Originally announced in 2022 as both a direct sequel and a soft reboot of the beloved action-RPG franchise, Kingdom Hearts IV has remained under wraps—until now.

This week, the developers surfaced with a fresh collage of new in-game screenshots, posted via the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter account. Alongside the images, they expressed gratitude to fans for their patience, suggesting that development is still quietly progressing.

The timing is notable: the post arrived just days after Square Enix officially canceled Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, a mobile spinoff that had been revealed at the same time as KH4. The cancellation, coupled with Square Enix’s recent financial setbacks, signals a shift in the company's strategy.

Square Enix has since committed to prioritizing quality over quantity in its releases. The publisher is also moving away from platform exclusivity deals, focusing instead on simultaneous multi-platform launches to maximize reach—acknowledging that PlayStation-first releases have not delivered the expected returns.

With a new approach and a long-awaited update, Kingdom Hearts IV appears to be back on the radar—though fans will still need to wait for a concrete release date.
