Clair Obscur Patch 1.2.3: Good Fixes, But Still Waiting on DLSS and Performance

Alright, Clair Obscur fans—Sandfall Interactive just dropped Patch 1.2.3, and while it's not the performance overhaul some were hoping for, it does bring a bunch of solid quality-of-life improvements. This update mostly focuses on fixing annoying mouse issues, plugging up some map softlocks, and tuning up ultrawide support. There’s still no DLSS 4 Frame Generation (which stings a bit) in Clair Obscur new patch, but if you’re playing on keyboard and mouse or an ultrawide setup, you’ll notice the difference.

Let’s get into the good stuff first. We previously described the first update to Clair Obscure as a promising start to the improvements. For mouse and keyboard players, the most irritating bug—the one where mouse buttons would become unresponsive after just one use—is finally gone. Same goes for that weird issue where a single click during a Jump counter attack would kill your input entirely. These fixes are a big deal because Clair Obscur’s combat relies on tight reactions. Missing a parry because your mouse decided to take a coffee break? Not anymore.

Another win for ultrawide users: the game no longer squishes your screen into a weird 32:9 cinematic box during cutscenes. That alone makes everything feel way more immersive. Menus, UI scaling, and full-screen cutscenes now play nice with ultrawide resolutions. And if you’ve been rage-minimizing the game every time you adjusted your settings, congrats—that’s fixed too.

Sadly, this update does not add support for DLSS 4 Frame Generation. Right now, there is only one mod that enables DLSS 4 Frame Gen. The bad news is that this mod is behind a Patreon wall.

Key Upgrades in Clair Obscur Patch 1.2.3:

  • Fixed mouse input bugs during combat and UI navigation
  • Improved ultrawide resolution support and full-screen cutscenes
  • Resolved multiple world map softlock spots
  • Weapon scaling and damage balance adjustments
  • Bugfixes for UI glitches, stuck party members, and NG+ progression

Recall that the game recently celebrated 2 million copies sold and received congratulations from the President of France.

Now here’s the part that’s still a bit disappointing: DLSS 4 Frame Gen? Still not here. And yeah, there’s a mod for it, but it's paywalled on Patreon. Not exactly the most user-friendly solution. There’s also no movement on the blurry visuals caused by DLAA, and no fix for the minor traversal stutters people have flagged since launch. If you were hoping for better performance or a more polished visual experience, this patch won’t be your savior.

What has improved is the world map’s navigation. The devs patched a surprisingly long list of spots where you could get stuck—between rocks, near lanterns, in ruins, and around bridges. They even fixed specific bugs where Esquie would fall through paint bridges or get trapped around levitating structures. Poor guy was basically a bug magnet, but he should be safe now.

Weapon and skill tweaks also made the cut. Lithelim and Blizzon both had attribute scaling issues at high levels, and those are now fixed. Stendhal, one of the heavier-hitting weapons, got a 40% damage nerf, which will likely shake up a few builds. Virtuose Stance also got a correction—Medalum’s third Lumina no longer double-dips damage across the board, only for Burn. These kinds of balance changes show the devs are still keeping an eye on late-game scaling.

On the bugfix front, this patch squashes a bunch of frustrating edge cases. Can’t shoot in Free Aim because of worn triggers? That’s fixed. Journal UI locking you out of gameplay? Gone. Party getting accidentally split forever after re-triggering a cutscene? That’s been handled, too. Even some weird interactions at camp—like screen blacks after rapidly clicking objectives and sleep—have been tidied up.

And for NG+ fans, rejoice: you can now actually finish the boss encounter in Stone Wave Cliffs without getting blocked. It’s a small fix, but one of those progress-killers that can absolutely ruin an otherwise smooth playthrough.

You can no longer trigger the 'Discovering the truth' cutscene in Old Lumière a second time in a row, splitting the party forever with only Verso and Maelle in it.

So, where does this patch leave Clair Obscur overall? It’s definitely a more polished game today than it was last week. Mouse input is finally reliable, ultrawide folks get proper cinematic treatment, and there’s less chance of getting trapped by a random rock. But performance buffs and next-gen tech like DLSS 4 still feel out of reach unless you’re modding it—and even then, only if you're willing to pay.

If you’re playing on Steam Deck, you’ll also notice cleaned-up backgrounds in various menus. It’s a subtle fix, but one that makes the portable experience smoother and more visually consistent.

Steam should auto-download the patch next time you launch, and for those modding or tweaking the game manually, it’s worth checking if anything’s broken post-patch (no major mod issues reported yet, though). We’re still waiting on the framerate-unlocked cutscene, too, so the ClairObscurFix mod remains essential if you want fully smooth cinematic playback.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a stunning game that clearly has legs, and patches like this one help keep it upright. But now we’re looking ahead to Patch 1.2.4—or dare we dream, 1.3—where performance, DLSS, and visual polish can finally get the attention they deserve.
