🎥 A Return to Mafia’s Story-Driven Roots

Mafia: The Old Country is set in early 1900s Sicily and tells the origin story of Enzo Favara, a young man climbing the ranks of Don Torrisi’s crime family. Hangar 13 President Nick Baynes described the game as a "focused, linear experience" that prioritizes quality storytelling, historical immersion, and a refined version of classic Mafia gameplay.

"This is a gritty, grounded, brutal, and emotional narrative," Baynes stated. "We’re embracing the roots of the Mafia mythos in a way fans have never seen before."

🕹️ No Open World, No Multiplayer — Just Pure Storytelling

Mafia: The Old Country is intentionally not an open-world title. Hangar 13 and 2K have emphasized that it is closer in structure to Mafia 1 and 2 than the more expansive Mafia 3. The game is strictly single-player, focused on delivering a polished, cinematic experience without the need for a massive time commitment.

2K President David Ismailer added:

"There’s a big audience for rich, narrative-driven games that don’t demand 100+ hours. This title is designed to fit alongside our larger, persistent experiences while offering something unique.”

🧭 Not GTA 6 — And Proud of It

Despite surface-level similarities to GTA 6 or Red Dead Redemption, the developers were clear: Mafia: The Old Country is not an open-world sandbox. While players may explore authentic environments in early 20th-century Sicily — on foot, in vehicles, or even on horseback — the experience remains linear and narrative-driven.

"This is a focused package," the team stated. "Think Mafia 1 and 2, not Mafia 3 or Rockstar’s open-world epics."
