During a little "thank you" video to celebrate Resident Evil 4 Remake hitting a whopping 10 million players, Capcom snuck in a tease for Resident Evil 9... and it's hiding in plain sight. In the clip, we get a chaotic, hilarious montage: Ada whispering with a villain, infected villagers partying in adorable hats, and Dr. Salvador literally shredding his chainsaw like a guitar. (10/10, no notes.)

But the real eye-catcher? A rustic wooden sign saying "Thank You For Playing" — and when you tilt it sideways, the planks form the Roman numeral "IX".

That’s right. Resident Evil 9 confirmed (sort of).

"I know what you did here."

One player commented, complete with a bulging-eye emoji, that honestly sums up the whole fandom reaction.

Leaker Dusk Golem also pointed out that the boards weren't even there earlier in the video, meaning Capcom definitely planted them for eagle-eyed fans to notice.

Resident Evil 4 as Revolution

To really appreciate why this little tease hits so hard, you have to understand Resident Evil 4's impact. When it launched back in 2005, RE4 didn’t just revive the franchise — it revolutionized third-person shooters. Over-the-shoulder aiming? Atmospheric horror blended with frantic action? It all started here. Resident Evil 4 took a series that was starting to feel a little creaky and launched it into a new golden age, influencing everything from Gears of War to Dead Space.

The 2023 remake only solidified its legend, proving that RE4’s DNA is still one of the strongest foundations Capcom has ever built on. No wonder they chose this game to sneak in a new chapter’s teaser.

So, What Do We Know About Resident Evil 9?

Not a ton... yet.

Capcom officially confirmed that Koshi Nakanishi, director of Resident Evil 7, is helming the next mainline game. Given that RE7 basically saved the franchise again by going full horror-first and introducing the excellent Ethan Winters storyline, Nakanishi's return is big news.

"It was really difficult to figure out what to do after," Nakanishi admitted. "But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can."

Rumors suggest Resident Evil 9 might be set on a mysterious island inspired by Singapore, with a heavier survival focus and (of course) a whole new batch of nightmares to fight through. But again, nothing’s 100% confirmed yet.

Rumors are a Powerful Virus

Capcom could have just posted a boring "thank you" note and moved on. Instead, they tossed a giant, gleaming breadcrumb to one of the most loyal fanbases in gaming — and now the internet’s on fire.

Whether Resident Evil 9 brings us haunted islands, cosmic horror, or something totally unexpected, one thing’s clear: The series is far from finished, and if anything, it’s about to get even wilder.

Stay frosty, rookies. There's always something hiding behind the next door in Resident Evil.
