Baldur’s Gate III Receives Its Eighth Major Update — The Final One for New Content

To celebrate the launch, the developers released a short cinematic video showcasing the game’s heroes sporting their new subclasses in an intense battle against a dragon.

Here are some of the key additions introduced with the update:

  • Steam Trading Cards are now available for collectors and achievement hunters.
  • Support for split-screen co-op on Xbox Series S, a long-awaited feature that was previously unachievable due to the console's hardware limitations.
  • Introduction of cross-platform co-op, which requires a Larian Network account. Interestingly, cross-play is available even when using mods, provided a few conditions are met: the host must have no more than 100 mods installed, and all mods must be officially available and verified through the Larian mod manager for PC, Mac, and consoles.
  • A fully-fledged photo mode offering a variety of poses, filters, effects, stickers, and modding support for even more customization.

The update also introduces 12 new subclasses — one for each of the game’s base classes:

  • Bard — College of Glamour.
  • Barbarian — Path of the Giant.
  • Cleric — Death Domain.
  • Druid — Circle of the Stars.
  • Paladin — Oath of the Crown.
  • Fighter — Eldritch Knight.
  • Monk — Drunken Master.
  • Ranger — Swarmkeeper.
  • Rogue — Duelist.
  • Sorcerer — Shadow Magic.
  • Warlock — Hexblade.
  • Wizard — Bladesinging.

On top of that, Larian has implemented hundreds of system improvements and bug fixes, along with significant updates to the modding tools. Players can now partially edit locations and add interactive objects through the enhanced editor. However, the ability to create new quests, dialogues, or alter static world elements — such as landscapes and buildings — remains unavailable, leaving room for community-driven modding expansions.

Larian Studios confirmed that this is the final update in terms of major content additions for Baldur’s Gate III. The game will continue to receive smaller patches addressing bugs and minor issues going forward.

To mark the occasion, Baldur’s Gate III is now available at a 20% discount on Steam. Meanwhile, Larian’s core development team has already shifted its focus to the studio’s next projects, though no details have been shared yet.
