The Molasses Flood Officially Merges with CD Projekt RED: A New Chapter for Project Sirius

After four years since CD Projekt acquired The Molasses Flood, the studio has officially merged into CD Projekt RED, ceasing to exist as a separate legal entity. This move marks the end of The Molasses Flood's independent story but opens up new opportunities for the long-awaited multiplayer spin-off of The Witcher, codenamed Project Sirius.

Damian Isla, co-founder of The Molasses Flood, took to LinkedIn to call the merger a "good and healthy" decision for the team, emphasizing that it had been long anticipated. He explained that the move eliminates organizational barriers and allows the team to become more deeply integrated into CDPR's structure. Isla also stated that Project Sirius, a game he's been working on as design director for the past three years, will be a truly special and amazing game.

However, Damian Isla has decided to step down from his role and move on to new ventures. CD Projekt, in turn, stated that this decision to incorporate The Molasses Flood into the larger structure of the studio will ensure greater consistency in the scale and direction of Project Sirius but will also lead to "some changes in the project’s leadership."

Project Sirius is set to include features such as a character creation editor, class systems, PvP/PvE modes, and an open world. The game may take place in an alternative setting inspired by Japanese culture, drawing from The Witcher: Ronin manga.
