Former Nintendo insider speculating about Switch 2 Price and Release Date in June
A former Nintendo sales lead claims Switch 2 will launch in mid-June, with an announcement expected in April’s Direct. He also speculates on the price, pre-orders, and why the original Switch won’t drop in price immediately.
A former Nintendo sales lead, known as Sean, believes the long-rumored Switch 2 will launch in mid-to-late June, with an official announcement coming in April’s Nintendo Direct. Speaking on the Kit & Krysta podcast, he claimed Nintendo wants the console out before summer ends so kids can hype it up before school’s out.
Sean outlined strategic reasons for a June release: retailers would have time to push Switch 2 bundles for the holiday season, and if Nintendo delayed the launch to late 2025, it would likely mean something wasn’t ready. His prediction aligns with Nintendo’s upcoming hands-on tour, which runs from April to June.

On pricing, he estimated Switch 2 will cost around $400–$450 but admitted he doesn't have insider knowledge of the specs. However, he’s confident the console will use an Nvidia chip and won’t launch with an OLED screen - Nintendo is likely making trade-offs to keep costs down.
He also addressed pre-orders, suggesting Nintendo might require buyers to link purchases to a Nintendo Online account to curb scalping. He pointed out that Nintendo tested a similar system with the Alarmo clock, possibly as a dry run for Switch 2 pre-orders. Another potential move? Preloading consoles with digital purchases before shipping them out.
As for the original Switch, don’t expect an immediate price drop. Sean believes it’ll still be full price at launch, but Black Friday deals could make the OLED version a steal.
One thing he’s sure of - retailers don’t have launch details yet. Any "leaks" from stores are just guesses, and even retailers won’t know the real date until just before the public announcement.
Nintendo recently revised its sales forecast after missing Switch sales targets, but according to company president Shuntaro Furukawa, this has nothing to do with anticipation for the Switch 2.
