Each update in Genshin Impact includes at least two banner cycles, each offering two five-star characters alongside a lineup of three four-star units. The first phase of the latest update introduced two highly anticipated characters: Mavuika, the Pyro Archon, and Citlali, a renowned fortune-teller from Natlan.

Genshin Impact Tops Mobile Revenue Charts for January

A recent post by Reddit user PusheenMaster featured a chart ranking the top-performing mobile games in January 2025, based on revenue data from Sensor Tower, a reputable business analytics firm. The report confirmed that Genshin Impact secured the top spot, generating over $99 million, which marks a staggering 118% increase from December’s sales.

Several factors likely contributed to this impressive growth, the most significant being the presence of two banner cycles and the introduction of a new Archon in the first phase of the update. The first half of Version 5.3, released on January 1, 2025, featured Mavuika, the Pyro Archon, one of the most eagerly awaited characters in the game’s history.

The Impact of Mavuika’s Release

Genshin Impact's Archon Chapters are crucial to the game's overarching storyline, spotlighting the Seven Archons. Mavuika, Natlan’s leader, had one of the most well-received story arcs and is widely regarded as one of the most powerful characters in the game. Like previous Archons, her strength lies in her ability to adapt to various team compositions, making her a valuable asset for players.

Fans were initially surprised when HoYoverse placed both Mavuika and Citlali in the same banner cycle, as major five-star character releases are typically spread across separate phases. However, revenue reports suggest that this strategy did not negatively impact HoYoverse’s earnings, demonstrating the popularity of these new characters.

The Second Banner Cycle: Fontaine Favorites Return

The second phase of Version 5.3 also featured two highly sought-after Fontaine characters:

  • Arlecchino, the Fatui Harbinger
  • Clorinde, the Champion Duelist

Arlecchino has been one of Fontaine’s most beloved characters, alongside Furina and Neuvillette. Since this was her first rerun, many players eagerly pulled for her. Both Arlecchino and Clorinde incorporate the unique Bond of Life mechanic into their kits, a feature exclusive to only a handful of Fontaine characters.

Looking Ahead

With Genshin Impact continuing to dominate mobile revenue charts, it's clear that HoYoverse’s strategic banner releases and engaging character updates remain a major driving force behind the game's ongoing success. As future updates roll out, fans can expect even more exciting content to further solidify Genshin Impact’s position at the top of the market.
