Valheim’s Deep North Update Teased with a New Hero and Epic Trailer Series

Valheim's development team is building anticipation for the release of its Deep North content in a unique way—by releasing a series of short trailers featuring an original character named Hervor Bloodtooth. While the exact release date for the Deep North update remains unknown, the video series suggests that Iron Gate AB is actively working towards launching it.

A survival sandbox game where players take on the role of fallen Vikings striving to reach Valhalla, Valheim first entered Early Access on PC on February 2, 2021. Developed by a small team of just five people, the game quickly became a sensation, skyrocketing to Steam's top-selling weekly game within days of its launch, surpassing titles like Dyson Sphere Program.

Although not one of Valheim’s original six core biomes, the Deep North has been present in the game since its early days. However, due to its barren and empty nature, players have long anticipated an update to make it more engaging. This long-awaited update has been in development for several months, with some sources suggesting it may not arrive until late 2025. To maintain player interest in the meantime, Iron Gate AB has introduced a narrative trailer series centered around Deep North explorer Hervor Bloodtooth. Shared through the game's development blog on Steam, only one episode has been released so far, revealing little about Bloodtooth herself. However, her narration hints that she sees the Deep North as the final step on her journey to Valhalla.

Valheim Introduces Deep North Content Through a New Original Character

According to the development blog, Iron Gate AB is diligently working on adding new enemies, dungeons, and weapons to Valheim, offering players a glimpse into what the Deep North update will bring. While details remain sparse, the blog teases the inclusion of northern lights and snow-covered landscapes, fitting for the game’s icy northernmost region. The Voyage of Hervor Bloodtooth will continue as a trailer series, but developers will also provide updates through other channels.

The last major Valheim update explored the opposite end of the map, focusing on the southernmost region. Released in May 2024, the Ashlands Update introduced over 30 new weapons, three new armor sets, a wealth of crafting materials and buildable objects, as well as unique regional music and events. Given the overwhelmingly positive response to the Ashlands expansion, many players have high expectations for the Deep North update, which could be one of the final major content additions before Valheim exits Early Access.
