Hideaki Nishino to Become Sole CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment
Sony has announced significant leadership changes, with Hideaki Nishino set to become the sole CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), overseeing PlayStation, starting April 1, 2025. Currently, Nishino shares the CEO role at SIE with Herman Hulst, but following this shake-up, Nishino will take full control while Hulst continues to lead PlayStation’s Studio Business Group. Nishino and Hulst took on joint leadership after the departure of former CEO Jim Ryan.
Nishino expressed his excitement about the new role, saying, "I am truly honored to take the helm at Sony Interactive Entertainment. Technology and creativity are two of our biggest strengths as we continue to focus on developing experiences that deliver entertainment for everyone. We will continue to grow the PlayStation community in new ways, such as IP expansion, while also delivering the best in technology innovation." As part of his vision, Nishino aims to focus on broadening PlayStation's reach and expanding its intellectual properties across various platforms.
Hulst will remain responsible for managing PlayStation’s game development studios. Additionally, he will play a pivotal role in driving the expansion of Sony’s video game IPs into other media formats like movies and TV shows, further enhancing PlayStation’s presence outside of gaming.
In another key shift, Hiroki Totoki, the current COO and CFO of Sony, will succeed Kenichiro Yoshida as the group’s president and CEO. Yoshida is stepping down after a successful tenure, during which he significantly contributed to Sony’s growth. Totoki, who was personally recommended by Yoshida to the board, expressed his gratitude for the appointment. "I am incredibly honored and humbled to have been entrusted with the important role of President and CEO,” Totoki said. He went on to highlight his commitment to building upon the success of his predecessors, including Kazuo Hirai and Yoshida, with a focus on Sony’s long-term vision.
Totoki also emphasized the importance of Sony’s "Creative Entertainment Vision," which was introduced in May of last year. This strategy, which guides the company’s direction over the next decade, prioritizes diversity, collaboration, and innovation. Totoki's leadership will aim to further connect Sony’s diverse businesses and people, striving to create new value and a bright future for the company, all while delivering a powerful sense of emotional engagement, or "Kando," to its audiences.
