Sony to Remove PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus Starting January 2026

Sony has announced a significant shift in its PlayStation Plus offerings, revealing that PlayStation 4 games will no longer be included in the monthly free titles or Games Catalog starting in January 2026. This move reflects the company’s focus on the PlayStation 5, as it aims to streamline its subscription service toward the newer console.

In a PlayStation Blog post detailing the February 2025 monthly titles, Sony stated, "As we shift to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog." However, this change will not affect games players have already redeemed. The titles in the Games Catalog will remain available to play until they are removed in the usual monthly refresh cycle.

Sony assured subscribers that other benefits of PlayStation Plus, such as exclusive discounts, online multiplayer access, and online game save storage, will continue to evolve. The company also confirmed that new PS5 titles will be added to the service each month, in line with the shift toward the latest generation of consoles.

The PlayStation 4, which debuted in 2013, has been a staple for Sony for over a decade, while the PS5, launched in 2020, has gradually become the primary platform for many players. Sony noted that "many of our players are currently playing on PS5 and have shifted toward redeeming and accessing PS5 titles."

While it’s unclear whether PS4 games will be moved to the Classics Catalog, which currently includes older PlayStation titles from previous generations, such an update is expected to be announced closer to the changeover. This shift marks a significant step in Sony’s ongoing efforts to optimize its PlayStation Plus service for the next generation of gaming.
