Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Could Be a Long-Term Win for PlayStation Fans

PlayStation fans have reason to be excited—Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls may be sticking around for the long haul. According to the game’s developers, long-term support is already being planned, potentially extending into the next console generation.

The upcoming 2.5D fighting game—developed by Arc System Works, Marvel, and Sony Interactive Entertainment—was officially unveiled during the June 4 PlayStation State of Play. With its cel-shaded visual flair and a cast of iconic Marvel heroes and villains, Fighting Souls instantly caught the attention of fans and fighting game enthusiasts.

🦸 Confirmed Characters So Far

As of now, the roster features eight characters:

  • Captain America
  • Ms. Marvel
  • Doctor Doom
  • Spider-Man
  • Ghost Rider
  • Star-Lord
  • Iron Man
  • Storm

Players will get their first hands-on experience during the closed beta, set for September 5–7 on PlayStation 5. The game’s unique 4v4 combat system will be a major focus of testing and community feedback ahead of its full launch.

📈 Support May Extend to PlayStation 6

The bigger news came during EVO 2025 in Las Vegas, where producer Takeshi Yamanaka hinted that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls could receive support for up to 10 years—potentially through the next PlayStation console cycle.

As translated by PS Studios’ Reed Baird and reported by PushSquare, Yamanaka said that Sony and Arc System Works are committed to a decade of updates and support—if the game performs well after launch.

That timeline aligns with industry expectations for the PlayStation 6, which is rumored to release around 2027. While Sony hasn’t officially confirmed the PS6, leaks about both the next-gen console and a new PlayStation handheld have already surfaced online.

⏳ Release Window & EVO 2026 Hopes

Currently, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is targeting a 2026 release window for PS5 and Windows, though no exact date has been announced. Many expect the game to launch before EVO 2026, allowing it to be featured in next year’s premier fighting game tournament.

If Arc System Works delivers on its vision, Fighting Souls could follow in the footsteps of hits like Dragon Ball FighterZ and Guilty Gear -Strive-, both of which enjoyed extended post-launch support and competitive relevance.
