Destiny 2 Player Crafts Stunning House Harkonnen-Inspired Armor from Dune
A creative Destiny 2 player has shown appreciation for the latest Dune film by crafting a custom armor set inspired by the soldiers of House Harkonnen, as seen in one of the movie's most memorable scenes. This player's creation is part of a wave of custom Destiny 2 costumes replicating the appearance of Harkonnen characters like the Baron, Rabban, and Feyd-Rautha.
Dune, a classic sci-fi story with many adaptations, has gained renewed popularity thanks to Denis Villeneuve's recent blockbuster films. Dune: Part 2 hit theaters in March 2024, focusing on Paul Atreides' rise to power as he harnessed the culture and beliefs of the Fremen, Dune's native inhabitants who saw him as a prophesied savior. By the end of the film, Paul dethrones his archenemies in House Harkonnen, who are backed by the universe's Emperor.
Though the Harkonnens had limited screen time in the 2020 film, they played a significant role in some of Dune: Part 2's most visually striking scenes. The Harkonnen soldiers, architecture, and even the skin tones of key characters are portrayed in high-contrast monochrome, creating stark visuals. Reddit user Spider-K1n tapped into this aesthetic to create a Destiny 2 Titan gear set reminiscent of an unnamed Harkonnen character seen in the arena sequence on Giedi Prime.
Their Titan costume garnered attention due to its unusual inspiration: the Harkonnen Arena Guard. This faceless warrior is tasked with managing fighters during Feyd-Rautha's birthday celebration, keeping them within the arena and under Feyd-Rautha's control. They sport all-black outfits and sharp-pointed headdresses, which Spider-K1n replicated with the premium Celestial Helm armor piece and the Superblack shader from the recent Into the Light update.
Other pieces in the armor set helped complete the Harkonnen Arena Guard's form-fitting appearance. The matte black cloth and leather of the Destiny 2: LightfallCogent Beat chest piece and class item maintained the monochromatic style, while the Midnight Oil legs and Streetware Arms ensured a streamlined silhouette. Titan armor is often bulky and sharp in Destiny 2, making it challenging for Titan players to achieve a sleek look. Spider-K1n's thoughtful selection of gear has provided fellow players with a unique approach to recreating the striking style of House Harkonnen.
