Fortnite's Pandora’s Box: Leaked Concept Art Reveals Surprising Original Design for Mythology-Themed Season
A recent leak has unveiled an alternative concept for the "Pandora's Box" in Fortnite, coinciding with its Greek mythology-themed season. As the plot of Chapter 5, Season 1 progressed, a dramatic scene unfolded during a live event on March 2, where a Titan’s Hand excavated the box from the earth.
The box was subsequently attacked by players, breaking open within 24 hours of its unveiling. This rupture unleashed a vortex that anomalously allowed building in the Zero Build mode—a game mode typically devoid of building features. Players could gather building materials by eliminating NPCs and navigating through the vortex.
The box, inspired by the Greek myth where Pandora is warned not to open it, released all evils into the world upon its opening. Contrary to this, Fortnite's rendition was initially planned differently as revealed by a prominent Fortnite leaker, HYPEX, on May 6. Samuel Williams, Senior Environment Concept Artist, had envisioned the box with several chained panels that would sequentially reveal teasers as each chain was broken. The final design, however, featured a single large chain, simplifying the task into one collective effort.
The destruction of Pandora’s Box heralded the onset of the next season, though Epic Games postponed this anticipated update last minute, a familiar occurrence due to the challenges of managing a major live service game. Despite the delay, the simpler design with one chain has been well-received by the community, who appreciated the simultaneous unveiling of all teasers.
HYPEX, known for his timely leaks, previously disclosed information about Billie Eilish's appearance at the Fortnite Festival and Star Wars-themed items for the "May the 4th" celebration. As fans look ahead, they eagerly anticipate new additions in season 3, including content related to Fall Guys, with the next chapter set to launch on May 24.
