Unlocking Cyberpunk 2077's Hidden Death Stranding Secrets: The Kojima Connection
Many Cyberpunk 2077 players might have missed a Death Stranding Easter egg hidden within the game. This reference to Hideo Kojima's latest creation has resurfaced on social media as fans returned to the RPG to experience the newly released Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion and the preceding 2.0 update.
The collaboration between Kojima Productions and CD Projekt Red began with the crossover between Cyberpunk 2077 and Death Stranding in late 2020. One of the objectives of this partnership was to promote the PC port of Death Stranding, which received several cosmetics inspired by Cyberpunk 2077. Unfortunately, none of this content made its way to the original PS4 version of the game.
CD Projekt Red, on the other hand, added the BB pod from Death Stranding to Cyberpunk 2077, but many players overlooked this Easter egg initially. Reddit user deddyduck_22 recently stumbled upon the orange baby container in the game and shared their discovery online. This revelation gained popularity, with hundreds of players upvoting it to the front page of the game's subreddit. It seems that even years after its inclusion, a portion of the fandom was unaware of this Easter egg. You can find the pod in the small downtown clinic that V breaks into during the Cyberpunk 2077 quest called "The Hunt".
Aside from the BB pod model, the crossover also featured Hideo Kojima himself appearing in Cyberpunk 2077. In the game, players can encounter the renowned game designer at the beginning of "The Heist" mission, as V and Jackie enter Konpeki Plaza and pass the reception area. When Jackie offers the protagonist the choice to follow him to their room or explore, opting for the latter allows players to visit the hotel bar adjacent to the main elevator. Here, they can find Kojima sitting at one of the tables, engaged in conversation with a group of people.
Approaching Kojima in the Cyberpunk 2077 rendition prompts him to inquire if the player has a pitch for him. However, this is the extent of the interaction with Kojima, who is referred to as "Oshima" in the game. This Cyberpunk 2077 cameo followed his appearance in the 2019 series "Too Old To Die Young," an artsy neo-noir miniseries created for Amazon Prime Video by Nicolas Winding Refn. Kojima also made a brief appearance in Refn's latest series, "Copenhagen Cowboy", which was released in January 2023.
