Dead Island 2 will be available on "another platform" within the next year
The information was shared by Lars Wingefors, CEO of Embracer Group, during the company's quarterly earnings call on Thursday. Dead Island 2 was initially announced in 2014, but its development journey was marred by delays and changes in development teams.
In 2019, Dambuster Studios, an internal subsidiary of Deep Silver, took over the development responsibilities. This led to the eventual release of the game in April, available on platforms including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC exclusively through the Epic Games Store.
Upon its launch, Dead Island 2 exceeded expectations, selling one million copies within three days and reaching two million copies sold in its first month, as reported by Embracer.
Wingefors stated, "I believe Dead Island experienced a notably successful launch period, followed by subsequent performance that aligns with typical expectations."
He continued, "What we anticipate now, of course, are promotional activities, but mainly the introduction of new content. There's a substantial amount of content planned for the game within the next year, which should enhance the sales of the core game."
Furthermore, looking ahead a year from now, there are plans for a release on a different platform, which is expected to contribute to increased sales.
While no specific details were provided about the upcoming platform release, it is possible that the game's PC version will be made available on the Steam platform. There's also speculation about the possibility of the game being released on a Nintendo console, such as the Switch or its successor projected to debut in the latter half of 2024.
Additionally, Dead Island 2 is receiving two story expansions. The first expansion, titled "Haus," is set to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2023, followed by the second expansion, "SOLA Festival," in the second quarter of 2024. Players can access both expansions through the game's Expansion Pass, which is priced at $29.99/ £24.99.
