Cyberpunk 2077 has reached a milestone of 25 million copies sold, while Phantom Liberty has surged to 3 million units sold in just one week
Sales of the game Cyberpunk 2077 continue to grow, reaching a milestone of 25 million copies, as reported by CD Projekt. This figure significantly surpasses the results announced by the company in April of the previous year (18 million sales) and in September (20 million sales).
CD Projekt's CEO, Adam Kiciński, announced this new achievement during an investor presentation. He also noted that Cyberpunk 2077 reached this milestone in just a little over two years since its release, which is considerably faster than games in the Witcher series, including the phenomenal title, The Witcher 3, which achieved a similar level of sales in 4.5 years.
Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the most highly anticipated projects of the previous console generation and sold eight million copies through pre-orders alone. The total number of copies sold reached 13 million in the month of the game's launch in December 2020.
Additionally, CD Projekt's Chief Financial Officer, Piotr Nielubowicz, announced that the game's first and only expansion, Phantom Liberty, sold three million copies between its release on September 26 and October 3. This is a significant achievement, considering that an estimated 20 million players have the main game on PC or new consoles, indicating that 15% of all players purchased the expansion within just one week.
Interestingly, 68% of Phantom Liberty sales were on PC (including 10% on GOG), 20% on PS5, and 13% on Xbox Series X/S. This underscores the popularity of additional content among PC gamers. CD Projekt also expressed confidence in the continued growth of sales and the success of the game.
