Baldur's Gate 3 Receives Ninth Hotfix: New Features and Crucial Fixes
Larian Studios has released the ninth hotfix for Baldur's Gate 3, making it available for download as of Friday. This quick update follows closely on the heels of the eighth minor patch, which notably featured a humorous shaving of a cat in the game.
Since the acclaimed release of Baldur's Gate 3 on August 3, the Belgian studio has been diligently refining their latest RPG. In this time, they've rolled out a total of twelve patches, including three major updates that brought significant balancing changes and additional content.
While the latest patch is classified as a hotfix, it manages to sneak in a couple of new features. Players can now alter the main character's name by interacting with the Baldur's Gate 3 Magic Mirror, which was initially introduced in late September. This magical mirror can also be used to modify the appearances of hirelings, the combat-ready recruits found at Withers' camp, allowing players to swap them in for the main companion cast during battles.
Additionally, the October 6 hotfix addressed line-of-sight properties for sightless entities, including traps and items. Beyond that, the patch includes 15 fixes, addressing issues ranging from minor bugs to technical problems that could lead to game crashes. The update also resolves an annoying problem that occasionally caused a black screen in split-screen multiplayer on the PS5, triggered by specific dialogue sequences.
This ninth hotfix for Baldur's Gate 3 bumps the game's version number up to 4.1.1.3767641. Steam users can expect the update to download automatically, and this is also the default behavior on the PS5. In case the PlayStation version doesn't update automatically despite having an internet connection, players can check if the Automatic Updates option is enabled under the Saved Data and Game/App Settings menu.
Larian has confirmed that all updates released for Baldur's Gate 3 up to this point will be included in the Xbox Series X/S port when it launches. However, the release date for the Xbox version is still pending, as it fell behind the PS5 port due to challenges related to supporting split-screen multiplayer on the Series S.
