A Starfield Player Encounters a Persistent Asteroid Glitch, Gaining an Unwanted Companion

Since its release, Starfield has garnered attention not only for its vast universe but also for the glitches that players have uncovered along the way. One particularly intriguing glitch has caught the gaming community's eye, as it grants players an unusual traveling companion in the form of a persistent asteroid.

While Starfield has had its share of bugs, it's worth noting that the game is generally more polished compared to some of Bethesda's earlier releases. However, these glitches run the gamut from amusing to potentially game-breaking. For instance, players have reported encountering a puddle with a fully stocked shop inventory, another glitch that generously bestows infinite Starfield credits, and even one that transforms an NPC into a monstrous entity. While some of these anomalies are merely distractions, others can significantly impact the game's performance, leading to crashes, particularly on the Xbox Series S.

Recently, a Starfield player, who goes by the Reddit username ReverendRoo, shared their fascinating experience with the gaming community. ReverendRoo posted a series of screenshots showcasing an unusual glitch they encountered while navigating the Starfield universe in their spacecraft. In each screenshot, an asteroid closely trails their ship, even persisting through loading screens as they journey from one celestial body to another. Astonishingly, ReverendRoo claimed that despite 30 hours of gameplay, they were unable to shake off this tenacious space rock. The response to ReverendRoo's post revealed that they were not alone in facing this asteroid-related bug, with other players sharing similar experiences.

Some players have reported encountering not just one but multiple asteroids tailing their ship, with the potential to accumulate up to six of these space boulders. Given that Starfield already struggles to run smoothly on certain gaming setups, this glitch can exacerbate performance issues. Some players on the Xbox Series X/S even reported crashes attributed to this asteroid bug. However, it appears that PC players have found a workaround by using console commands to remove the unwelcome space debris.

While the shared images do not depict any direct collision between the asteroid and ReverendRoo's custom Starfield ship, there is a looming concern about potential damage if such an event were to occur. The size of the asteroid suggests that it might only dent the spaceship's shields, but it could become a hazard if ReverendRoo's hull integrity is already compromised.

Given the quality of the images and the availability of Starfield's photo mode, it's likely that ReverendRoo used this feature to capture and showcase the glitch. However, it remains unclear whether this anomaly is purely visual or if it runs deeper within the game's mechanics. Considering that players have encountered this bug on Xbox Series X/S, it is possible that a future Starfield update will address and resolve this peculiar issue.
