Acquiring the Githyanki Egg Peacefully: A Guide to Baldur's Gate 3 Crèche Y'llek Hatchery Quest
The Society of Illumination is in pursuit of a githyanki egg, and players can acquire it through non-combative means in Baldur's Gate 3. The Mountain Pass holds the remarkable Rosymorn Monastery, now transformed into Crèche Y'llek by the githyanki. These crèches serve as safe havens for raising githyanki children away from threats, as time does not flow in their home, the Astral Plane.
Crèche Y'llek plays host to several significant quests in Baldur's Gate 3, not all of which are tied to Lae'zel. While en route to the monastery, players might encounter a woman on the road. She'll ask the party to secure an egg from the crèche on behalf of the Society of Brilliance. Finding the egg isn't too challenging, but successfully retrieving it without a confrontation poses a much tougher task.
The quest's initiator for the githyanki egg is Lady Esther. Her campsite is located to the northeast of the Trielta Crags waypoint. To be specific, players should descend the northern staircase and then move around to the right.
Lady Esther doesn't create the best first impression. She aims to deliver a githyanki egg to the Society of Brilliance, an organization hoping for a less hostile environment to raise gith. However, Esther herself doubts the endeavor's value, believing githyanki are inherently belligerent from birth. Still, she received a handsome payment from the Society, and she'll compensate the party if they succeed in doing what she couldn't: retrieving an egg.
The Crèche Y'llek Hatchery is the target location, but players face various obstacles on their way from Lady Esther, including cliffs covered in repulsion mines (which can be bypassed with a challenging Athletics check to activate the cable car). Moreover, the outer Rosymorn Monastery ruins are teeming with strange creatures and scavengers.
Eventually, players will reach a set of large doors leading to a lower level of the monastery. This is where the githyanki have established their crèche, and they react with hostility to outsiders at the gate. Players can avoid combat by explaining themselves to the guards and succeeding in a challenging social interaction. Alternatively, they can let Lae'zel take the lead, ensuring a peaceful entry. Once inside, players should take a left, then a right, and proceed into the spacious room with acid pools.
To acquire the githyanki egg peacefully, players should note that the hatchery appears unusually empty, as Lae'zel will mention if present. The egg is situated at the northwestern end of the chamber, and the path leading to it contains hidden traps and caustic acid pools. To bypass these hazards, players should jump across the rocks directly ahead, then climb up to the githyanki standing on the overlook point just east of the egg.
This gith is Varsh Ko'kuu, overseeing the hatchery. He'll explain that the egg is the last of its group to hatch, and he's postponing its destruction due to the extended wait. If a party member speaking to Ko'kuu passes an Insight check, they can inquire further and choose a Persuasion, Deception, or Intimidation check to acquire the egg from him. If he agrees, he'll grant the party Varsh Ko'kuu's Boots, which grant immunity to acidic surfaces (like the pool below) and reduce damage from Acid sources by half.
To proceed, a party member should wear the boots, detach from the group, and then use the nearby ladder to reach the egg. With Ko'kuu's approval, no one in the crèche will attack the party for taking the egg, and even Lae'zel's opinion of the protagonist won't change. Players can use the Trielta Crags waypoint to return to Lady Esther. Once the egg is delivered, she'll reward the party with a substantial amount of gold and a promise to appear again in Baldur's Gate.
Another option is to combat the crèche's inhabitants and seize the egg during the battle. If players opt for this route, it's essential to retrieve Ko'kuu's Boots from his body before entering the acid-filled area.
