The Terrifying Resident Evil Enemies We Desperately Need to See Again in Upcoming Installments!
For over 25 years, the Resident Evil franchise has captivated fans with its horrifying monsters, and there's a strong case for bringing back some classic foes in the upcoming installment, Resident Evil 9.
Since its inception, Resident Evil has boasted an impressive lineup of grotesque bioweapons, engineered by the infamous Umbrella Corporation, that have terrorized players throughout the series. While the franchise has seen recent success and Capcom's release strategy suggests Resident Evil 9 is on the horizon, there's an exciting opportunity to reintroduce monsters that have been absent from recent entries.
In the original Resident Evil, players faced off against a variety of "zombies" created by the T-Virus, including the infamous Cerberus (zombified dogs) and Neptune (zombified sharks). Although Cerberus has made recurring appearances in subsequent titles, there are other bone-chilling creatures from the first game that have only made fleeting appearances, making them prime candidates for a revival in Resident Evil 9.
One such creature deserving a comeback is the Hunter. Surprisingly, this iconic enemy type has only made a mainline series appearance in Resident Evil 3 (including the 2020 remake), although it does make an appearance in Resident Evil Revelations. The Hunter, a horrifying fusion of human and amphibian DNA, is renowned for its deadly prowess and tendency to ambush players at the most inopportune moments, shattering any sense of safety. With the likelihood of Resident Evil 9 continuing the first-person perspective trend, the prospect of facing off against a Hunter becomes even more chilling.
Resident Evil has recently embraced its horror roots, evident in both the remakes and main series sequels. If Capcom intends Resident Evil 9 to be a pivotal moment in the series, marking a full-circle narrative and character arc, the reintroduction of the Hunter would serve as a welcome (albeit terrifying) homage to the franchise's origins.
Another classic enemy that has been absent since the early days of Resident Evil is the Chimera. These harrowing creatures, a result of human and fly DNA fusion, provided intense encounters in the later stages of the first game. Given their ability to walk on ceilings and drop down unexpectedly, reintroducing the Chimera in Resident Evil 9 would add tension and horror to the anticipated first-person gameplay.
Recognizable by their distinct hissing and clicking sounds, Chimera lurk in the shadows, making them difficult to spot and presenting a constant threat to unsuspecting players. It's hard to think of a more iconic enemy from the series that could instill genuine terror. With speculation of Chris Redfield making a return as the protagonist in Resident Evil 9, what better way to bid farewell to the veteran STARS member than having him confront some of his earliest and most formidable adversaries?
As the Resident Evil franchise evolves, it's crucial to pay homage to the series' roots and deliver a spine-chilling experience for fans. The inclusion of classic enemies like the Hunter and Chimera in Resident Evil 9 would not only elicit nostalgia but also elevate the horror elements that have defined the franchise for decades. Only time will tell if these nightmarish creatures will once again haunt players in the eagerly anticipated sequel.
